City tour, IKEA and Welcome Party

On Saturday we went to a city tour with our buddies to get to know the city. It is not that big, but pretty neat so you can find anything fast and its almost impossible to get lost... the city centre has the cathedral of town as main landmark, and you can see the cathedral from almost anywhere in the city... check out some pictures of the city:

Crossing the river to get to city centre

The cathedral

A really nice snapshot I think... best friends I suppose?!

The fountain right next to cathedral

Some small harbor, I really like the seaside here!

Looking from a fort towards Odderoya, the half-isle. Behind it its just open sea!!!

Another view of the small (private I think) harbor

The fort mentioned earlier

Nice detail on the cannons

I think every second person owns a boat around here...

Some famous person I believe (I dont know her really)

The fort as viewed from the harbor

Another fountain, this time more modern

Build entirely out of sand (to celebrate the track and field games coming up soon)

More wonderful sand sculptures

Very pitoresque around here

A small plaza near the harbor with cafes, pizza and the fish market

The same plaza as before, in the background you can see the new concert hall just build here

Some lobsters in the fish market

Another impression of the fish market. Too bad you cant smell it! ;)

Ok, so after doing the short city tour we went to IKEA to buy some stuff, like things you need for the kitchen and the bedroom. It was very nice at IKEA, the prices were alright and I was really surprised and lucky that it did not cost so much. I have never seen so many blue bags before!

After IKEA, we went to grab some beer for the Welcome party in the evening. Beer and all other alcoholic stuff is very very very expensive around here. Just so you can imagine: This sixpack of beer was around 100 kroners, so it equals to around 13 euro (!!!). Notice that these are small bottles, so its just 0.33 l per bottle. At least we bought the local beer, its called "Christiansand's Bryggeri"

Before going to the Welcome party, we were invited to Gunnhild's place. She is the leader of my buddygroup and she as well as the other buddies are very nice people. I like them a lot already. In Norway it is almost mandatory to have small preparties like this one, its called "vorspiel"...

Now some pictures of the actual Welcome party at the common room in the basement of one of the student dorms (Kongsgard Alle)

It was pretty crowded inside

Felix from Germany and Shreddy from Austria (at least thats his fb-name, I cant remember his real name right now. SORRY!)

Some impressions from the party tent outside

Daniele from Italy and Gunnhild, our Norwegian buddy leader

Thats it so far, stay tuned for some impressions of the tour to Odderoya that took place on Sunday! It was really nice and I love the place. So coming up next (maybe this evening): Odderoya!!!
